Although it is prohibited by Brazilian law, children’s advertising is still a practice of many companies. They take advantage of the hypervulnerability of children to build relentless consumer desires.
The goal of the Children and Consumption program is to disseminate and debate ideas about the issues related to advertising aimed at children. We promote dialogue to raise social awareness about the risks of advertising aimed at children up to 12 years old, as well as all forms of commercial exploitation of children. We also believe in the articulation with advertising companies, digital platforms, public agencies and civil society organizations.
RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT THE IMPACTS OF CHILDREN’S CONSUMPTION
Produce and disseminate information to alert and engage those involved in the child protection network about the risks of consumerism stimulated by child advertising, at advertising companies, as well as on digital platforms.
DENOUNCEMENTS OF ABUSIVE PRACTICES
Preparation of letters, notifications and representations. These are sent to companies and agencies of the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary branches, thus encouraging the adoption of more ethical and responsible communication practices.
PROMOTING TRANSFORMATION
To influence the formulation and monitoring of public policies, as well as articulations with the judicial system, to strengthen a democratic society. Stimulate changes in the advertisers’ conduct as a strategy to guarantee the rights of children.
