Our History

…begins 27 years ago, each one of them building – with excellence – new focuses at society’s urgent issues concerning multiple childhoods.

Alana Institute’s history is mirrored in its mission to guarantee rights on a global scale, focusing, above all, on long-term socio-environmental changes. It understands children as subjects of rights, creators and players of unique ways of being, thinking, feeling, and participating in the world.

Thus, they are in a unique process of physical, emotional, cognitive, social and symbolic development and, therefore, need a keen eye from families, the State, society and all communities.

In addition, Alana Institute has also expanded its activities to adolescents, following the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child – of which Brazil is a signatory – and establishes the protection of persons up to 18 years of age.
