Its purpose is to prevent harm to the physical, psychological, and moral integrity of this audience, as well as to guide appropriate responses in cases of suspected or confirmed violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the course of our activities, we may engage in in-person or digital interactions with children and adolescents, as well as process information strictly necessary to ensure their qualified and safe participation, in accordance with Brazilian legislation, with particular attention to Article 227 of the Federal Constitution, the provisions of the <strong>Statute of the Child and Adolescent (Law No. 8,089 of 1990)<\/strong> and the <strong>Legal Framework for Early Childhood (Law No. 13,257 of 2016)<\/strong>, as well as other applicable regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If, after reading this Policy, you have any questions, wish to obtain further information, or would like to report situations involving risks or violations of the rights of children and adolescents impacted by Instituto Alana, we provide secure and confidential communication channels, the contact details of which are indicated at the end of this document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Compliance Team<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Alana Institute<\/strong> (or &#8220;Alana&#8221; or &#8220;Institute&#8221;), by means of this Safeguarding and Protection of Children and Adolescents Policy (&#8220;Policy&#8221;), publicly establishes norms, guidelines and procedures to be observed in order to prevent damage to the physical, psychological and moral integrity of children and adolescents, especially when they are part of the public impacted by Alana Institute&#8217;s activities, as well as to respond appropriately to possible suspicions and violations of this commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">This Policy is aligned with the highest international standards of protection<sup>1<\/sup>, including specifically the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/brazil\/protecao-de-criancas-e-adolescentes-contra-violencias\"> UNICEF Brazil framework &#8211; Protection of Children and<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/brazil\/protecao-de-criancas-e-adolescentes-contra-violencias\">Adolescents against Violence<\/a>, which recognizes that &#8220;everyone has a fundamental role to play in protecting children from violence&#8221; and that &#8220;violence against children and adolescents is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that is linked to cultural, social and economic factors&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Objectives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Ensure that no activity or action developed by Alana Intitute&#8217;s programs, platforms and projects causes harm to children and adolescents;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Expand the conditions for the Institute to achieve its institutional mission of honoring the child, and thus promote and protect the rights of children and adolescents with absolute priority;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Establish a &#8220;zero tolerance&#8221; environment for any form of exploitation, abuse, violence, discrimination or neglect against children and adolescents;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Implement a victim-centered approach, prioritizing their well-being, safety and rights; and(e)\u00a0\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Ensure that all actions are guided by the rights and best interests of children and adolescents.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reach<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">This Policy applies to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>All employees<\/strong> (members of the Presidency and Vice-Presidency, officers and statutory directors and employees, trainees and young apprentices);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Third parties<\/strong> (partners, consultants, advisors, suppliers of goods, service providers and volunteers);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Chaperones <\/strong>assigned to accompany children and adolescents on trips and events within the scope of Alana Institute&#8217;s programs, platforms and projects;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Partner organizations, public institutions and private companies<\/strong> that have direct or indirect contact with children and adolescents in Alana Institute&#8217;s activities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Definitions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">This Policy is in accordance with Brazilian legislation, paying special attention to Article 227 of the Federal Constitution, the provisions of the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (Law No. 8.089 of 1990) and the Early Childhood Legal Framework (Law No. 13.257 of 2016), as well as other applicable standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Thus, and in accordance with the Statute of the Child and Adolescent, the following definitions apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Children:<\/strong> people up to 12 (twelve) years of age;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Adolescents: <\/strong>people between 12 (twelve) and 18 (eighteen) years of age;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Safeguarding:<\/strong> a set of policies, procedures and organizational practices designed to prevent harm and protect children and adolescents from any form of abuse, exploitation, neglect or violence;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Sexual Exploitation:<\/strong> any actual or attempted abuse of a position of vulnerability, differential power or trust for sexual purposes, including monetary, social or political gain from the sexual exploitation of another person;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Sexual Abuse: <\/strong>physical or threatened intrusion of a sexual nature, whether by force or under unequal or coercive conditions; Violence: psychological, sexual, institutional, patrimonial and the intentional use of physical force or abuse of power, real or threatened, against a child or adolescent in accordance with the Federal Constitution and Law No. 13.431\/17, which results or is highly likely to result in harm to health, survival, development or dignity;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Focal point: designated person who will support any need related to protection and safeguarding during activities, trips or events;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Chaperone: <\/strong>responsible adult, over 28 (twenty-eight) years of age, designated to accompany and protect a child or adolescent during Institute trips and events;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Harm: <\/strong>violation of physical, psychological or moral integrity resulting from action or omission, including negligence, discrimination, exploitation, violence, cruelty, oppression or any other form of abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission, Principles and Values of the Alana Institute<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong>Mission<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Alana Institute&#8217;s mission is to honor the child, a mission that unfolds through the exploration of issues sensitive to the multiple experiences of childhood and adolescence, the promotion of humanistic values connected to the social and environmental dimensions, the encouragement of recognizing the potential of each individual and of collective action, and the co-creation and dissemination of content capable of building images that inspire a better future for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Principles of action<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Alana Institute bases its actions and activities on the following principles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Legality;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Impersonality;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Morality;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Publicity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Economicity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Efficiency;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Transparency and accountability.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Values<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Alana Institute bases its actions and activities on the following values:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Interdependence;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Beauty;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Enthusiasm;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Transformative innovation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Depth; Human Dignity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Inclusion and Diversity.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commitments and Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Children and adolescents are subjects of rights, creators and protagonists of unique ways of being, thinking, feeling and participating in the world &#8211; this is what we call &#8220;childhood culture&#8221;. Children and adolescents are undergoing a unique process of physical, emotional, cognitive, social and symbolic development and therefore need a close look from their families, the state, society and the community <strong>to guarantee their fundamental rights<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong>Fundamental Commitments<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Alana Institute is committed to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Implement zero tolerance<\/strong> for any form of exploitation, abuse, violence, discrimination or neglect against children and adolescents;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Use its best efforts to contribute to the <strong>realization and guarantee<\/strong> <strong>of the rights of children and adolescents, with absolute priority,<\/strong> as provided for in the Federal Constitution; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Develop and maintain <strong>preventive and care measures<\/strong> for children and adolescents, as well as share, inspire and encourage their partners to create them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The institution is dedicated to <strong>protecting all children and adolescents<\/strong> from violence, discrimination and mistreatment, following the highest international standards of protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">All activities carried out by the Institute will be guided by the rights and <strong>best interests of children and adolescents. <\/strong>To this end, the Institute will establish and maintain <strong>safe channels for reporting concerns or violations<\/strong>, ensuring that there is no retaliation against whistleblowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The institution will provide <strong>ongoing training<\/strong> to all employees and third parties on protection and safeguarding, implementing <strong>rigorous checks<\/strong> in recruitment processes for positions involving contact with children and adolescents. The Institute will cooperate fully with competent authorities in investigations into allegations of abuse or exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong>Operational Guidelines<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Institute will adopt concrete measures to create <strong>safe environments free from violations of rights and discrimination<\/strong>, as well as establishing clear <strong>protocols for emergency situations<\/strong> and ensuring the <strong>safe participation of children and adolescents in decision-making processes<\/strong> as a form of support and risk mitigation measure for children and adolescents, including in their home context, considering that this is the place most prone to danger for girls and boys, with about 3\/4 of cases of sexual violence occurring in the home environment, according to data from UNICEF Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The protection of personal data will be ensured in <strong>accordance with the Federal Constitution, the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), the Digital ECA (Statute of the Child and Adolescent)<\/strong> and international standards, while the Institute will promote continuous monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of the protection measures implemented, considering that understanding the concepts of violence against children and adolescents is important in order to be able to identify, prevent and respond to it, as recommended by UNICEF Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Alana Institute will adopt concrete protection measures to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Value, listen to and respect children and adolescents who are impacted by the work of the institution;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Maintain safe environments free from violations of the rights of children and adolescents;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Maintain easily accessible channels that ensure the whistleblower\u2019s confidentiality, for guidance and the receipt of reports regarding violations of this Policy, including: (i) a secure, dedicated institutional email (via <a href=\"mailto:protecao@alana.org.br\">protecao@alana.org.br<\/a>); (ii) an independent external channel operated by a specialized company, available 24\/7, allowing for anonymous reports; (iii) the possibility of direct reporting to Institute professionals present during activities, trips, and\/or events; and (iv) informational materials, such as posters and brochures at the Institute\u2019s facilities and digital content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Map the situations in which its employees and third parties interact with children and adolescents, measuring the risk of harm and developing risk control and mitigation actions, as well as educational training and awareness-raising actions;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Promote, in the recruitment processes for employees and third parties who will have direct contact with children and adolescents, the use of criteria that allow the selection of candidates with greater training and ability, in order to offer safe care to those people;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Sensitize, train and offer permanent support to all employees in relation to the protection of children and adolescents;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Create and maintain a physical and digital environment that is anti-bullying, anti-harassment, anti-racism and anti-sexism, ensuring that there is effective help if any episode of violence occurs with children and adolescents impacted by the Institute;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Record and archive information and documents in a secure and professional manner, protecting them and preserving the confidentiality of personal data, in accordance with the General Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 13.709\/2018) and the institutional guidelines for personal data management.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Alana Institute provides that, in its facilities, premises and places where activities, programs and events are carried out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Mutual respect is guaranteed between employees and between employees and the external public;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">The supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) is guaranteed for carrying out activities as required, especially for the staff responsible for cleaning, maintenance and janitorial work;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Everything complies with safety regulations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Everything complies, whenever possible, with the Accessibility Law (Law No. 10.098\/2000);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">There is no use of illicit substances. If employees are found to be using illicit substances in the workplace, the responsible management and the People &amp; Culture department should be informed so that the appropriate measures can be taken;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Emergency response procedures are in place.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">In the event of incidents that put the lives or physical integrity of children and adolescents at risk, the space in danger must be evacuated and the fire brigade and trained authorities must be called in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Expected Behavior and Protection Measures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Expected Conduct<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">ALL employees and third parties MUST act at all times with the aim of ensuring that Alana Institute adheres to the mission, principles, values and commitments set out in the previous items, and also guide their behavior by the following specific fundamentals and expected conduct, which translates into at least the following expected conduct:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">All children and adolescents have the right to protection from harm;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Everyone has a responsibility to support the protection of children and adolescents;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Institute will use its best efforts to care for the children and adolescents with whom it works, is in contact or who are affected by its work and activities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">All actions relating to protection must be taken in accordance with the rights and best interests of children and adolescents.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Employees must maintain appropriate professional boundaries in all interactions and respect the confidentiality and privacy of sensitive information. Consent must be formalized through the appropriate instrument prior to any photography, filming or interview &#8211; for this, please send the request to <a href=\"mailto:compliance@alana.org.br\">compliance@alana.org.br<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Any suspicion of harm to children and\/or adolescents, regardless of its seriousness or the level of certainty as to its actual occurrence, should be immediately reported to Alana Institute through its communication channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Strictly Prohibited Conduct<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Any form of violence in accordance with Law No. 13.431\/17, physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect, as well as intimate or sexual relationships with people under the age of 18, regardless of age, consent or location, is <strong>strictly<\/strong> prohibited. The use of abusive, discriminatory or humiliating language is strictly forbidden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Sharing personal information about children and adolescents without their permission, offering gifts, money or favors in exchange for sexual services, and using or facilitating the use of drugs or alcohol by minors are prohibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Bullying, harassment or intimidation in any form, in a physical or digital environment, is unacceptable, as is any discrimination based on age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, social class or any other reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Furthermore, Alana Institute understands that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">No Member of the Alana Institute or third party may use their position or the benefits provided by the Institute to induce children and adolescents to adopt behaviors that are potentially harmful to them; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Institute will not accept any conduct that could cause harm to children and adolescents.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Specific Measures Adopted in the Programs<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong>Alana Institute<\/strong> carries out in-person activities with children and adolescents as part of its programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">In order to ensure that the commitments made in this Policy are respected, the Institute undertakes to specifically observe the needs of each program it develops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>In-person Activities<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">In in-person activities with children and adolescents, the Institute will adopt the following specific measures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">TAll activities proposed within physical spaces will respect the reality and limits of the community;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Partners&#8217; intentions and objectives for holding events in physical spaces will be mapped out;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Any individualized assistance for children and adolescents should be carried out, whenever possible, in the presence of a guardian and in a place visible to third parties, ensuring that there is no embarrassment to them;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Children and adolescents who are unable to use toilets and changing rooms on their own will only be accompanied in the event of an emergency or special needs, and, whenever possible, with the presence of a second employee or third party;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Users of the physical spaces must be informed, through posters, brochures, oral communication, or any other effective means, that the Alana Institute is committed to preventing harm to children and adolescents, and must be informed of the channels available for clarifying any questions and submitting reports;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Before events are held in physical spaces, a registration form must be made available with the possibility of indicating specific support needs or accessibility resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Ensure that the parent or guardian has been duly informed and has expressly authorized, by signing a Participation and\/or Authorization Form, the participation of the child or adolescent in the event in question, when necessary;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Carry out technical analysis at venues that are not managed by Alana Institute, by means of photographic and video records, considering that the venue has a responsible electrician or maintenance technician, when necessary; In crowded events, child and adolescent members will only participate if safety is guaranteed throughout their stay at the venue;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Ensure the identification of its members when external performances take place by means of wristbands, badges or other means of identification that meet the needs of the performances;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Digital Environment and Technology<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">To protect children and adolescents in the digital environment, the Institute:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Will never request personal information beyond what is strictly necessary for the purpose determined from children and adolescents on online platforms and activities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Implement strict privacy and personal data protection controls on all digital platforms used by the Institute;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Promote education on digital safety and online risks in its training activities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Monitor online communications when appropriate and legally permitted, especially in activities that involve direct interaction with children and adolescents;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Immediately report any inappropriate behavior identified in the digital environment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Ensure compliance with the LGPD and international data protection standards for children and adolescents; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"> It will promote critical digital literacy for children, adolescents and families on the safe and conscious use of technology, whenever possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Communication and Coexistence Approaches<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Employees and third parties must use appropriate, accessible and respectful language, avoiding vulgar, offensive, sexist, racist, prejudiced or slang terms;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Employees and third parties must refrain from flirting with or giving privileged treatment to children and adolescents in order to gain personal favor or advantage;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Intimate and sexual relationships between employees or third parties and adolescents will not be permitted;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Demonstrations of physical affection must not go beyond what would be understood as reasonable between people who do not have an intimate relationship, and affective relationships of respect, care, protection and attention must prevail;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">It will not be permitted for anyone, especially children and adolescents, to be subjected, by employees or third parties, to embarrassing, vexatious or bullying situations, racism, chauvinism, ableism, ageism, LGBTphobia or any other form of discrimination or violence;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Any warnings should be issued in a respectful and purposeful manner, preferably in the presence of another employee or third party, and should never be used in any form of violence;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">If any signs of ill-treatment, oppression, discrimination or sexual abuse of children or adolescents are observed or reported, they must be immediately reported through the communication channels so that the respective bodies of the System for Guaranteeing the Rights of Children and Adolescents (SGDCA) should be called into action, even if these possible violations have nothing to do with the Institute&#8217;s activities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">In the case of assisting adolescents in compliance with socio-educational measures to provide community services, they must receive full support from Alana Institute and the organization responsible for their referral in order to faithfully comply with the measure. Furthermore, it must be ensured that no adolescent receives discriminatory treatment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Have an ethical commitment to listening to and participating in the actions and activities of children and adolescents in vulnerable situations in their actions and activities, safeguarding their right to manifestation and expression in their own time, based on their languages, subjectivities, conditions and socio-historical trajectories;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Following the principles of the initiatives, participatory methodologies should be adopted whenever possible in training processes with the aim of guaranteeing broad participation, strengthening and stimulating the autonomy of children and adolescents in the development of their actions and projects;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Participation in trips, in-person activities and events<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Mandatory Requirements<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">For the participation of children and adolescents in trips, in-person activities, and events, express written authorization from the Institute\u2019s Compliance Department and from the legal guardian is required, as well as the mandatory accompaniment of a trained Chaperone \u2014 prior safeguarding training will be provided to both the participant and the accompanying person.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Institute will guarantee travel insurance with full medical cover, clearly defined emergency protocols and appropriate documentation, in accordance with applicable national and international legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Responsibility of the Chaperone<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The designated Chaperone must fully accompany the child or adolescent throughout the activity and maintain regular communication with the legal guardians and the Institute. Alana Institute believes that it is essential to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of the participant and to immediately report any situation of risk or discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chaperone must strictly follow all safeguard protocols, guarantee adequate food, hydration and rest and protect the privacy and dignity of the child or adolescent under their care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">As a way of recording its commitment and sharing the guidelines with the Chaperone, the Institute will sign a Statement of Responsibility with all designated Chaperones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Institutional Support<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Institute will cover the full cost of travel and accommodation, comprehensive travel insurance for the participant and accompanying person, and financial support for local food and transportation. Translation and interpretation will be provided when necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">In addition, the Alana Institute will offer 24-hour emergency support, keeping a focal point available throughout the activity for any need that may arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting channels and procedures<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Communication Channels<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">For inquiries, guidance, and reports, the Institute provides multiple communication channels, recognizing the importance of reporting, as highlighted by UNICEF Brazil that \u201ceveryone who witnesses, knows of, or suspects violence against children and adolescents must report it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The channels include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Institutional, secure and dedicated email (<a href=\"mailto:protecao@alana.org.br\">protecao@alana.org.br<\/a>). under the care of Alana Institute&#8217;s Compliance and People &amp; Culture areas;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Independent external channel operated by a specialized company, available 24\/7, with the possibility of anonymous reporting;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Possibility of reporting directly to Institute professionals present during activities, trips and\/or events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Institute will guarantee:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Mandatory and wide dissemination of all channels on the institutional website in an easily accessible place;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Information materials in all physical units and in-person activities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Permanent updating of contact information;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Operation coordinated between the Alana Institute&#8217;s Compliance and People &amp; Culture areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">This structure recognizes that &#8220;the real numbers are much higher than police records show&#8221; due to various factors including underreporting and normalization of violence, as warned by UNICEF Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">If there are any doubts about the performance of the Compliance and People &amp; Culture areas or the person\/area designated to handle these channels, a member of Alana&#8217;s Executive Board should be contacted so that they can deal with the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Reports of violations of this Policy and Procedures<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Any interested party may submit reports of violations of this Policy to the People &amp; Culture area, either by email to <a href=\"mailto:protecao@alana.org.br\">protecao@alana.org.br<\/a> or by correspondence to Compliance and People and Culture, at the address of Alana Institute&#8217;s headquarters, indicating the facts that occurred in as much detail as possible and attaching any documents that corroborate the claims made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The receipt of reports will be treated with absolute seriousness and confidentiality, with all complaints receiving an acknowledgement of receipt within a maximum of 24 hours and secure documentation of all information. The initial assessment will be carried out within 72 hours to determine severity and immediate actions, including calling in authorities when necessary and implementing immediate protection measures for possible victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Investigations will be conducted by qualified professionals, internal and\/or external, specialized and within a reasonable time for conclusion according to the seriousness of the situation, guaranteeing due legal process and protection against retaliation for whistleblowers. The resolution will include a conclusive report with recommendations, disciplinary measures when applicable, follow-up of victims and implementation of process improvements, recognizing that &#8220;each life matters, and every child, every adolescent must be protected from all forms of violence&#8221;, according to the UNICEF Brazil principle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">In addition, the Institute recognizes as procedures that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Reports will be kept confidential and will be received and analyzed by Alana&#8217;s Ethics Committee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Institute&#8217;s Executive Board may decide to file reports that do not present minimal evidence of materiality or authorship of a violation of this Policy. If this is not the case, the Ethics Committee will, within a maximum of 72 hours, initiate a procedure to investigate the facts in order to take the appropriate measures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Ethics Committee may request documents, listen to employees and carry out any other diligence it deems necessary in the course of investigating the facts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">In the event of non-compliance with this Policy by any employee(s), Alana Institute will ensure that the necessary measures are taken, guaranteeing compliance with the rules laid down in the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) without any prejudice to the parties involved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">n the event of well-founded indications of any legal violation, the Ethics Committee will present evidence to the Executive Board, which must adopt measures as soon as possible and notify the competent authorities, regardless of the stage the investigation procedure has reached.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">The fact-finding procedure must preferably be concluded within 60 (sixty) days from the date the report is received.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Ethics Committee must, at the end of the fact-finding procedure, submit a conclusive report and, if it concludes that there has been an actual violation of this Policy, recommend to the competent bodies that the necessary measures be taken to punish the person(s) responsible, make reparation to the victim(s) and prevent similar episodes from occurring again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Whistleblowers&#8217; right to a full defense will be guaranteed and respected throughout the fact-finding procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Whistleblower Protection<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Institute will implement a <strong>strict policy of non-retaliation<\/strong>, guaranteeing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Absolute confidentiality of the whistleblower&#8217;s identity, except when expressly authorized or required by law;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Emotional, psychological and legal support when necessary, through partnerships with specialized professionals;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Continuous monitoring to prevent direct or indirect retaliation against whistleblowers in good faith;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Disciplinary measures against anyone who retaliates against whistleblowers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">This protection is based on the Institute&#8217;s Integrity Program, which has a specific Ethics Committee, internal regulations and a non-retaliation policy. It recognizes that &#8220;it is urgent that we confront this cycle of violence with information, intersectoral public policies, support for victims and continuous prevention campaigns&#8221;, as highlighted by UNICEF Brazil on the need for full protection for those who report and for victims, when the complainant is a child or adolescent, referrals will be made based on the Protected Listening Law No. 13.431\/2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:6px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Monitoring and evaluation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:1px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Governance Structure<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Executive Board<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Alana Institute&#8217;s Executive Board will be responsible for this Policy and its monitoring and results and will use the Compliance and People &amp; Culture areas to meet demands, contract services and prepare reports. Decisions on potential violations of this Policy will be taken by the Executive Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong><strong>Compliance and People &amp; Culture<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Compliance and People &amp; Culture areas will be responsible for coordinating actions to implement this Policy in accordance with the guidelines of Alana Institute&#8217;s Executive Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They must also report to the Executive Board, informing it of all the queries analyzed during the period and presenting any information and suggestions they deem appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The Compliance and People &amp; Culture areas will be responsible for receiving reports and inquiries, as well as preparing the Annual Report and presenting it to Alana Institute&#8217;s Executive Board.
